Marilyn's Music Blog
A place to share some of my eclectic music videos with friends and family and other interested people. I have done my best to make sure permission has been granted. Some of these videos are my own playing and some are of my late husband's band playing. I also have commentaries and lists of music here.

Glenn Gould DVD Set from CBC Television
I just got the 10 DVD box of Glenn Gould's CBC TV productions. Ten juicy delicious meaty DVDs packed full of musical insight and information about counterpoint, fugues, various composers, and much, much more. I had no idea that Glenn had produced so much material for us to enjoy 40 years after they were produced. I don't believe that we in Vancouver, BC had access to this material in the 1950s - 1970s. Yes, we had CBC, but I don't think we received these particular broadcasts.
As a teen, I was only mildy interested in Glenn Gould. My good friend, Louise, who studied piano as I did, went to see him in person when he performed in Vancouver. Her mother was more in tune with this sort of thing than my mother was, and I learned a lot about piano from my association with Louise.
I am now savouring all I can get my hands on about Glenn Gould - DVDs, CDs, and books.
What a genius he was and though he was criticized for his mannerisms as the keyboard, I can easily think of other musicians with their own strange mannerisms. Glenn was picked on for rolling around at the piano, and what strikes me is the fact that so did Ray Charles and no one seems to mind that Ray did this rocking back and forth at the piano. What say you?
